A photographic journey of 26 survivors of the 3 Strikes mustang rescue. Day one. May 11, 2009 Mother's Day.
Quoted to be "the worst animal neglect case in Nebraska history." Jason Meduna owner and so called "mustang trainer" was arrested for one count of animal cruelty and now out on bail faces a court date. The vet report states that these horses were not poisoned as Jason claimed, but riddled with parasites and were starved aka lack of care and feed. Feel free to google his name for more of the story. This gallery isn't about HIM, it is about these near death horses that need kind humans.
Although many of these images may be very hard to look at for some. It is important to document this case and all cases of rescue work.
I hope you will find the beauty in them because they are living breathing hopeful faces that have been to hell and back. With good human angels around them they are now truly free to live.
While looking, if you are like me, you will believe in the will to live and having hope in this world. Because if there are any living beings that could humble a person it was watching this herd arrive, weak, stumbling to the hay, rolling but having trouble getting up, some beyond thin, other's knocking at deaths door, some mares trying to nurse their equally weak foals, but all arrived alive and with groceries and love surrounding them.
Thanks to Jill Starr of Lifesavers Wild horse rescue for being on the scene in Neb, and loving wild horses enough to bring in yet another herd in need. To read more about Jill Starr's personal account please visit http://www.wildhorserescue.org
Donations and sponsors needed.
A portion of all gallery sales ( this includes all galleries) will go directly to these horses until they are healthy.
Please follow our journey as one by one you are introduced to them and via photography capture them finding life and love in a new world. In part of my "photography rescue" photo and written documentary.
Many blessings to these brave little souls and to those who have the courage to view and help them.
Please be sure to check out the DAY 6 Gallery to see the newborn filly "Wildflower" and to keep up with how the rest of the herd already looks in less then a week! Kudos to Jill and Lifesavers!
UPDATE Feb 2010- Jason Meduna was found guilty of 149 counts of animal cruelty last month and will be sentenced Feb 23rd 2010 for his crimes.
None of these horses that arrived at Lifesavers have died, in fact they weren't poisoned as Meduna had said, with food and love a year later now they thrive.
See Canon Girl, American Beauty, and Lazarus aka baby blue a year later! http://rachaelwallerphotography.smugmug.com/Animals/Rescued-3-Strikes-Mustangs-a/11328037_yhRsa#795425584_PLBFe
